Chad Collier, PE
Chad Collier was appointed President of Collier Engineering Co., Inc. in 2003 after the passing of his uncle, Mr. James (Jim) L. Collier. Chad has worked in civil engineering for almost 30 years and has gained extensive experience in roadway and site development design and construction engineering inspection services. In addition, Chad has also worked in the Asset Management field, focusing on public infrastructure such as asphalt pavements, concrete sidewalks, roadway signage, guardrails, and other roadway appurtenances. Chad has served on many local boards and commissions as an engineering advisor. Currently, he is serving as the engineering advisor to the Williamson County Highway Commission. In this role, he advises on transportation projects and technical requests throughout Williamson County's unincorporated area.
While still in college, Chad started his career working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation as part of a survey crew and later as an Engineering Technician. After graduating from Tennessee Technological University in 1996, he joined Collier Engineering Co., Inc. as an Engineering Intern. Chad learned the basics of roadway design, bridge hydraulics, stormwater calculations, and construction management acquiring his licensure in January 2000.
After Jim Collier's sudden passing, Chad and three other family members inherited Collier Engineering. These beneficiaries selected Chad to become the firm's first President. At this time, Collier Engineering was just a small firm with 6-8 employees working almost exclusively with five county government clients. The firms' focus was bridge replacement and repair, roadway improvements, construction engineering, and inspection (CEI). So, Chad's first order of business was to reach out to the existing clients, making them aware of the changes and asking them to "give them a shot." Chad is proud that we still work with all five county governments today.
Since 2003, Collier has grown from working with five counties to working with 53 of the 95 county governments, including 20 other city/town governments all within Tennessee. Also, by listening to our client's needs, Collier has added services such as GIS, Landscape Architecture, and Geotechnical Engineering to provide a more comprehensive service. In addition, in 2012, we expanded into the private development market, focusing on commercial and institutional development projects such as churches, multi-family sites, mixed-use, school site development, and residential development. Much of Collier's growth is due to an unwavering commitment to serving the client's interests while performing work "on time and under budget." Chad manages a diverse and talented multi-disciplinary staff of almost 80 professionals and support personnel. This approach allows Collier Engineering to provide comprehensive infrastructure, site development, and Asset Management solutions to meet our client's goals and objectives.
