The late Mr. James L. Collier, P.E., founded Collier Engineering in 1981. His steady hand and wealth of knowledge shaped the business and engineering principles of our current President, Mr. Chad A. Collier, P.E. The founding principles of the company, providing cost-effective designs and focusing on the needs of the client above anything else, continue to guide our staff of professionals today. Collier strongly emphasizes continuing education for our team so we can use the most current techniques while staying committed to those traditional values. We are committed to providing all our solutions in a way that extends the service life of any asset, reduces future maintenance costs and liabilities, and offers the highest quality of service to our clients.

Our Philosophy

Collier Engineering fosters teamwork to create solutions engineered to last. Our diverse team combines planning, design, and construction experience to deliver practical solutions aligned with our clients’ goals. Open communication and close cross-disciplinary collaboration help us anticipate challenges, make informed decisions, and keep projects moving forward.

Our designers work closely with our field staff and construction inspectors, gaining valuable insight into how designs are implemented and how design decisions translate to real-world construction. This ongoing coordination brings practical field experience into the design process, helping us develop plans that are constructible, efficient, and cost-effective while reducing potential construction challenges.

That collaboration continues into the field. Our inspectors draw on their construction experience to identify potential issues early and help navigate challenges as they arise. We work closely with owners, contractors, and project teams to develop practical solutions that maintain quality and protect the owner’s interests.

Throughout every phase of a project, we stay focused on serving our clients and the communities they represent. We build relationships grounded in communication, professionalism, and trust, and we take pride in delivering infrastructure that supports healthy, vibrant communities for years to come.

Chad Collier has served as President of Collier Engineering Co., Inc. since 2003, following the passing of his uncle, James (Jim) L. Collier. With nearly 30 years of civil engineering experience, Chad specializes in roadway and site development design, construction engineering inspection, and asset management for public infrastructure, including asphalt pavements, sidewalks, signage, and guardrails. He currently advises the Williamson County Highway Commission on transportation projects and technical requests.

Chad began his career with the Tennessee Department of Transportation before earning his engineering degree from Tennessee Technological University in 1996. He joined Collier Engineering as an intern, gaining expertise in roadway design, bridge hydraulics, stormwater calculations, and construction management, achieving licensure in 2000. Upon becoming President, Chad transitioned the firm from a small operation with 6-8 employees serving five counties to a thriving company now partnering with 53 counties and 20 cities across Tennessee.

Under Chad’s leadership, Collier Engineering expanded its services to include GIS, Landscape Architecture, and Geotechnical Engineering, and entered the private development sector in 2012. Today, the firm employs nearly 80 professionals and provides comprehensive solutions in infrastructure, site development, and asset management, focusing on delivering projects on time and under budget.

Collier Engineering believes in a positive culture that is challenging but rewarding.  We strive to provide an inclusive space that fosters a collaborative, supportive environment.  We promote activities that foster internal growth and expand our staff's knowledge. 

We aren’t just about work.  We organize team-building and social events that strengthen our company.   Collier understands how taking a break from time to time and coming together as a firm not only encourages socializing but can leave an employee feeling appreciated.

Collier Engineering supports community involvement.  We value being involved and giving back to the communities that we serve and live within.  We do this by encouraging employees to engage with charities and volunteer opportunities we can support as a group through our time, skills, and support.

Master Plan and Phase One concept plan for a 600 acre property in Southeast Davidson County. The diverse demographics of the surrounding area create a distinctive opportunity to provide a park designed specifically as an inclusive space for all Nashvillians. The Mill Ridge Master Plan focused on creating an equitable public space that brings together the most diverse quadrant of Davidson County. Phase One includes a gathering lawn, pavilions, and a regional playground unlike any other in the Metro Park System.

On May 1, 2010 Tennessee experienced an extreme and unprecedented weather event that caused a historic flood in the Metro Nashville area. Through existing contracts, Metro Public Works (MPW) enlisted Collier Engineering to manage the Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) portion of the roadway repair projects necessitated by the flood. Collier along with Metro Public Works was recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) as the 2010 “Project of the Year”
