Collier Engineering performed the engineering design and construction management for the roadway and pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Neelys Bend Road and Cheyenne Boulevard, Davidson County, Tennessee. The project spans over one-third of a mile of Neelys Bend Road and a quarter-mile of Cheyenne Boulevard. The improvements include additional turn lanes for traffic created by the nearby schools with new traffic/pedestrian signals, crosswalks, and wider sidewalks along Neelys Bend Road.  The intersection of Neelys Bend Circle and Neelys Bend Road was relocated to the entrance of Neely’s Bend Elementary School to improve traffic flow.  The relocation and installation of a new bus stop and shelter at the intersection was coordinated with Metro Transit Authority. The project grading included the necessary roadway ditches for storm water drainage, and side slope and driveway adjustments for roadway improvements. A hydraulic analysis and assessment of the site were performed to determine that the project did not negatively impact the downstream structures, nearby streams, and existing outfalls. Erosion prevention and sediment control plans were developed to manage all the storm water at the project site. The project was permitted with all the appropriate state environmental agencies, and Collier Engineering performed coordination with the local utilities.
